Yes to food, no to parking

Politicians in Longyearbyen want competition for food shopping, but are not entirely positive about central parking area construction.

Local politicians inspect the center of Longyearbyen last fall in connection with the new sector plan for the area. The plan, including a possible new Rema 1000 grocery store, is scheduled to be discussed at the end of this month. Seen here, from left to right, are Robert Nilsen (Liberal Party) Odd-Gunnar Brøto Braathen (Labor Party), Espen Klungseth Rotevatn (Green Party), City Youth and Culture Director Anne Søvold Vikanes, and Planning Director Linn Tautra Grønseth.
